    Vintage Print/Poster Collectors Alert! Ronin Gallery (New York City) Vintage Poster - Framed: "Spirit of Cherry Tree. The Thirty-Six Ghosts. Yoshitoshi. 1892". Frame size: 25" x 19". Frame appears to be red-stained, lacquered wood. Framed by Blackstone Custom Picture Framing, Malden, MA. Date: Unknown. Paper back covering of framed print stained (see photo of frame back); no visible stains on poster.
    Thirty-Six New Forms of Ghosts was the last major woodblock print series designed by the Meiji master Tsukioka (Taiso) Yoshitoshi(1839-1892).

    The series is about ghosts and demons and all kind of supernatural stories from the Japanese mythology and old folk tales. This print displays
    the enchanting courtesan Kurozome appearing as the magical spirit of the cherry tree. She manifests in the Kabuki play “Tsumoru Koi no Seki no To” to thwart the evil plans of Lord Kuronushi to cutdown an ancient cherry tree.
