    Description

You're bidding on a cool, antique Japanese woodblock triptych series of prints - 28" X 15" total size - by Ukiyo-e period master, Toyohara Chikanobu. A Kabuki theatrical print depicting a performance by Noh dancers - a traditional Classical Japanese costumed dance style - costumed as red and white lions, from an early folk tale. The fierce red and white lions face off, while a gallery of beautiful ladies watches from the gallery.
A prolific Meiji-period artist, the print combines two of Chikanobu's primary genres - Kabuki and Bijinga (beautiful ladies). Prints were published circa 1897.
Note some issues of condition - mainly that they are fully laid down to matting board - and not well matted either, to be honest. Some wrinkle within and bubbling at edges and seams evident. Prints also exhibit age toning, and some spotting/staining. SOLD AS IS AS FOUND.
That said, triptych is complete, and based on coloration and markings, they appear to be period original, not reproduction. Please review photos carefully to make your own determination of overall condition and appeal, and don't hesitate to ask any questions prior to bidding - thanks for looking!
