    Description

The woodblock design is purported to be by Nishikawu Sukenobu. The image consists of two pages from an ukiyo-e woodblock print book that have been appended together and then framed. It shows three courtesans in kimonos, one standing and the other two sitting on a bench. Beside the women on the bench is a tray with teacups. According to my grandmother's note on the back of the piece, it was purchased from "the Deutscher Collection" in November of 1916, by Benjamin Kimball. It was gifted to Morris Fuller Benton (1872-1948) and Linn Boyd Benton (1844-1932), my great grandfather and his father, who were colleagues of Mr. Kimball.
The print, frame and glass are in excellent antique condition. The print on the left lower quadrant shows some brownish discoloration. Otherwise, the glass has kept the paper clean with minimal damage or discoloration.
