Description
Presented is a fabulous antique South Asian silver box lined with a fragranttropical wood. This old piece is beautifully hand chased with ornate floral
swirls. The recessed portion of the box is textured with very very fine
stippling, to create greater contrast to the piece. Fabulous work! Each side
has three raised medallions depicting a dancing figure. The three on the lid
are larger and are shown riding animals. The left dancer rides a dog, the
center a snake, and the right dancer rides a tiger. The lid is nicely hinged,
and it closes well. This was likely made in Thailand or Burma, or some other
South Asian country between 1850 to 1910.
The piece is marked IMP on the left side of the lid. We have tested it with
nitric acid and guarantee it to be at least 800 purity silver, but it is likely
as high as 850 purity silver.
The condition is excellent. The wood lined interior is in great shape and
smells wonderful. The silver is also in great condition. There is a small
compression mark on the top front right corner of the box, small and not very
noticeable. The top back right corner has some very minor rippling as well.
There are no breaks, no cracks, no splits, no other dents, no chips and no
repairs.
The piece measures about 6 inches by 4 inches and 3 1/4 inches tall.
The weight is 557 grams or 19.64 ounces. The majority of weight is
silver.
