Description
This wooden Airplane kit is cut from 1/2" Cedar and has a wingspan of 20" . It mounts on a 3/8" x 4" pin that's included. The Kit includes everything but epoxy glue, paint and the tools to make this airplane whirligig .This kit will arrive quickly and as pictured. Step by step Instructions are included. The instructions were written for our DC-3 kit and can be followed to assemble the P-51 except the P-51 has no " propeller motors " . We've drawn 1 propeller blade for duplication. The difficult steps have been done and we believe this is a kit for a person with some knowledge and familiarity using saws and a drill ... a drill press would be ideal in drilling the propeller bub for enlarging the 1/8" hole to 1/4" for the bushing. Maybe not for beginners . Your plane should be sanded and sealed to last as long as possible.
You'll need to cut out the 1/8" thick propeller blades and assemble the propeller . Then square inside corners on the plane and fit the plane together and drill holes for assembly. Then paint the plane in the colors and insignia you'd like , glue ( epoxy) the stem and pivot ball in place and viola !
These cedar weathervanes will weather gracefully and last at least a decade or more outside barring any physical assault.
We use cedar for the plane and mahogany for the propeller hub, Cypress propeller blades, stainless steel stem , galvanized screws , nylon bushing brass propeller screw and epoxy
