Delighted to have for sale this truly a delightful
Antique Sterling Silver & Enamel Smoking Companion
from late 19th Century to early 20th Century, with a gorgeous monogram PB X and emblem, most likely belonged to Indonesia's Pakubuwono X, the 9th Susuhuan, ruler of Surakarta.
This is a very unusual find, and it is with the greatest pleasure and excitement we offer you here, a magnificent
Antique Sterling Silver & Enamel Smoking Companion
in quite excellent condition. It comprised three cups in various size and shape attached on a rectangular tray. The central cup has a rectangular match box holder clip on its back. The tray is standing on six clad feet, having a large handle on the middle. It is wholly made of solid silver (not silver-plated), including the stand and handle, with elegant blue enamel accents.
Magnificent array of chased decorations are applied on the surface of this fabulous piece, along with sophisticated deep cobalt-blue enamel accent finish - however the main attraction of this piece is large monogram
PBX
and emblem of Sarakarta on all the cups, handle and match box holder clip, which most probably belong to Indonesia's Pakubuwono X (1866-1939), often referred as PB X, the 9th
Susuhuan
, monarch of Surakarta Sunanate, in Island of Java. He was well known for his patronage to many local economic and cultural projects, including designing precious objects such as this. He was awarded posthumously the title of National Hero of Indonesia in 2009.
It hallmarked French Swan importation control marks on almost every parts. The mark is used since 1893 for solid silver items of unknown origin, sold at public auction in France. We could not find any other hallmarks.

Very Good to Excellent Estate Condition. Some age-related normal sign of use, light scratch marks and tiny losses of enamel. A tiny bent on the base of a cup (right one from front). Otherwise in excellent shape. The cups and the handle are removable with wing nut.
