Description
Up for auction a pair of antique Chinese Export Silver taper candle holders, from the shop of Master Silversmith Wang Hing, with a dragon in the clouds capturing the flying pearl. Both pieces have chop marks, but not able to identify the maker. "Probably the most prolific Chinese Export Silver maker was Wang Hing. As with the majority of Chinese silversmiths of this period, Wang Hing was a fictitious name designed to be auspicious—a good omen fronting the production. The fact a silversmith was prolific could often be a recipe for mediocrity; this is not the case with Wang Hing. Wang Hing operated between 1854-1925 at Zetland House, 10 Queen’s Road, Hong Kong, as well as at 1 Sai Street, Canton, and in Shanghai." https://www.worthpoint.com/articles/collectibles/floral-tours-de-force-wang-hings-chinese-export-silve#The candle sticks measure almost 5" high, top diameter is 1", base is 3 1/4" square and combined weight is 8.9 ounces (252 grams) prior to packing for shipping. Will ship in a 7x7x7 box.
This pair is in good used vintage condition with patina, wear and discoloration consistent with age and use. There is still some candle wax on the holders, didn't want to change the patina when cleaning. A earth magnet is not attracted to top section, but has light attraction to the base. The square base may have had some blacking on the floral strips.
Happy to combine shipping, please allow us to send a revised invoice so the postage will be correct. Thank you for looking.
