Description

This is a beautiful Silver Cup / Bowl
from Burma (Myanmar). The piece is specifically dated from 1916.  This delicately repoussed silver container was purchased in Bangkok in the early 1970's by my father Don Christensen during one of his quarterly buying trips for his Antique Shop in Penang, Malaysia.  The container was purchased in Bangkok’s well established jewelry district bordered by Silom Road and Surawong Road.
The item appears to have been produced for a specific
occasion - listed below is the inscription etched into the band surrounding the lip of the container:
"MAUNG PYO HEADMAN OF PAUKNWESAN PRESENTED AT COMMISSIONERS DURBAR 1916"
Please review pictures closely in regards to condition of this container.  The container's top is slightly bent but can be manipulated to make it more circular.   The container has not been polished and retains it’s original antique patina.  Applying silver polish would drastically change the container’s appearance if you prefer a shinier / newer looking piece.
Silver Cup / Bowl Dimensions: 3 1/2 inches wide and 2 1/4 inches high.  Weight: 4.8 ounces (136.08 grams)
